Regular Protein Treatments- If you straighten or even relax your hair, a good protein treatment is key in helping with the elasticity. The flat irons and chemicals can weaken the hair causing excessive breakage. The protein is designed to fortify the hair, preventing breakage. Favorite product: Aubrey Organics GPB.
Refraining from heat- When I discovered I had heat damage, I took a break from heat for 6 months. After 6 months, I noticed my lovely curl pattern reviving and also a huge amount of growth.
Deep Condition- Deep condition your hair once a week, sitting under the dryer for 30 minutes. This will replenish the moisture levels and also repair damage areas.
Air Drying- If you must wear your hair straight or would like to stretch it out, opt for air drying. Air drying will save your hair from dryness and minimize damage.
No touch ups- When you decide you would like to straighten your hair, try to refrain from applying more heat to it. Usually when I get my hair straighten, I like to roll my hair with flexi rods to keep the curls bouncy and full.
Ceramic Flatirons- Make sure to use a good quality flat iron (100% ceramic) that has a temperature setting. You should never need a temp higher than 350 degrees. Always use a good heat protector! Recommend flat iron: FHI.
